Bad Dreams from Argentina played alongside Steve Rothery and his band during the South American leg of their world tour. Rothery plays a solo on the title track of this album Déjà Vu. The band opened for Steve Hackett during his South American tour. That gives you an idea of the direction the music of Bad Dreams goes. No, they are not a copy of these artists. Bad Dreams is a magnificent force of their own.
The album Déjà Vu is a showpiece of what this band is capable of. Brilliant melodies in a classic prog setting with instrumentalists that have total control over their instruments…

The group's first U.S. release in two years featured ornate playing from Kerry Minnear on keyboards and Gary Green's loudest guitar work up to that time. The Power and the Glory is also a fairly dissonant album, yet it made the charts, albeit pretty low…

Lemmus Lemmus is a psychedelic rock band coming from Israel with 2 albums under their wings so far. The album design expresses more than thousand words can ever do. What you see is what you get… colorful and charming songs deeply plunging into psychedelic. Composed and recorded during a period of two years 'Lemmus Lemmus' is the follower of their critically acclaimed debut album. Consisting of dreamy, floating songs this is sometimes reminiscent to Pink Floyd's early output - unique though in it's entirety. The songs are enriched with native respectively eastern elements. Loops, scary effects, Mellotron as well as echoing vocals and guitars deliver some hallucinatory moments.

We've been following the career of Norway's Lucifer Was here at SoT for quite a number of years, and for those who might be new to the band, they formed in the late 1960's under various different names before settling on Lucifer Was in the early '70s. The band played plenty of live gigs until 1974, when they split up before recording any of the original music they had written and played live. Fast forward to 1995 when various members of the original band got together for some jamming, and an updated version of Lucifer Was crept from the grave, recording their first ever album in 1997 and they have stayed fairly active since then. Morning Star is their latest Transubstans Records release, and comes three years after 2014's DiesGrows. This new one also features the complete original line-up of Lucifer Was along with the current version of the band!…

“This is interesting” is a phrase that can easily go two ways. Oftentimes we say it in order to acknowledge that something is unlike anything we’ve heard, but with the subtext that we’re really not hoping to hear it again. Such is not the case with Letters to Maro, the new album from Frequency Drift. With this album the listener will be treated to a fresh approach that, while often restrained and atmospheric, never fails to actively ensnare the eavesdropper…

For Example is an another band from the SWF-broadcast vaults, with their recording they did in 1973. The band, founded in the late sixties, consisted of students of various study fields. In the beginning they played under the name 'Frida III' cover versions of sixties hits, but after they had been taken on for 2 productions by the State Theatre Tübingen, they changed their music style, added three wind players with jazz experience and formed 'For Example'. At first they played pieces of their favourite bands 'Chicago' and Blood, Sweat and Tears', but their repertoire also comprised soul numbers with horn sections. Step by step they added self composed titles and found their own music style, still influenced by their favourites…

Sometimes dreams, visions, fantasy worlds, stars and galaxies seem closer than the human reality… This is the main idea of the composition "So Far And So Near", and it has become the central idea of the Eternal Wanderers' album of the same name. The album contains 8 art/progressive/psychedelic rock compositions with total time 64 minutes. Many of them include the orchestral elements. Within the central idea of the album the compositions touch such topics as the beginning of the World ("And The World Will Be"), beauty lost in wars of all times and sadness that remains ("Mounds"), thoughts about the Man and Fate ("Thread Of Love"), hardly amenable to reason energy of light ("Energy Of Light"). The idea determines the mood of the music - from purely sad "And I Will Follow", solemn "And The World Will Be" to expressive "Energy Of Light" and "As You Wish, I Care Not".

Fans of Tom Newman's earlier progressive pop albums will undoubtedly be surprised by 1997's Hotel Splendide. A live recording of a dozen old blues and jazz standards plus one Newman composition, 1975's "Ma Song," for good measure, Hotel Splendide sounds on paper like it must be a tired effort by an old muso with no inspiration of his own left. That cynicism would normally be justified, but Newman and his cohorts, led by saxophonist Mel Collins, give these familiar old songs interesting new spins. St. Louis Jimmy Oden's classic "Goin' Down Slow" is taken at positively funereal pace in an arrangement dominated by mysterious low-register rumbles and moans. Even the most familiar songs, like Duke Ellington's "Don't Get Around Much Anymore" and Mose Allison's "Parchman Farm," are given new and intriguing settings. The hazy, almost psychedelic readings of "That's Alright Mama" and "Love Is Strange" wouldn't sound out of place on a Robert Wyatt album, or, for that matter, Newman's debut Fine Old Tom. Hotel Splendide isn't a patch on that prog-rock classic, of course, but it's considerably less disposable than one might guess.

US project THE KNELLS is the brainchild of composer and instrumentalist Andrew McKenna Lee, an artist with quite an eclectic career and skill set, from what I can recall from the marketing information submitted with the first CD by The Knells a few years back. "Knells II" is the band's second album, and was released through McKenna Lee's own label Still Sound Records in 2017.
